Principal Safety Analysis Engineer
Mr. Jamal Abdelghany joined SMR, LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of Holtec International), as Principal Safety Analysis Engineer in March 2017. He is the safety analysis lead for the SMR-160 project. As part of the effort to support the design and licensing of the SMR-160 reactor, Mr. Abdelghany is responsible for development and application of nuclear thermal hydraulic and safety analysis methodologies and models for the SMR-160 NSSS and containment. Primary work includes modeling and analysis of steady state, transient, and postulated accident scenarios for this passive integrated light water small modular reactor. Mr. Abdelghany received his B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He has over 30 years of nuclear power plant experience in thermal hydraulics, nuclear safety (LOCA & non-LOCA) and containment/balance-of-plant analysis using standard nuclear analysis codes (RELAP5, GOTHIC, MAAP). Prior to joining Holtec, Mr. Abdelghany was with Enercon as Senior Safety Analysis Engineer in the Engineering and Safety Analysis group and before that and for most of his career with AREVA and its acquired companies (Yankee Atomic Electric Company and Duke Engineering & Services) where he has held Principal and Advisory Engineer positions in the Nuclear Analysis department.
